During Thursdays & Saturdays in July and August (and on special event dates throughout the spring, summer and fall) we host Astronomy Nights in our Dark Sky Preserve. Our Astronomy Night includes an orientation into astronomy, a review of planets, northern lights, and solar systems, a laser guided sky tour, a tutorial on star hopping, tips and tricks for viewing with the naked eye, as well as instructions on the use of a planisphere (star map) to find objects in the night sky. Participants will also have the opportunity to try Bausch & Lomb wide-angle binoculars and observe through the park’s 8″ Dobsonian Telescope.
Please note that our Dark Sky Preserve is a NO WHITE LIGHT ZONE, meaning you will need to have red filters on all light you use at your site or while observing the stars.
Check out our events page for more of what is happening at Gordon’s Park. Our calendar of events is located at the bottom of the page.
